Biography
Mekyah McQueen is a Democratic representative for District 61 in the Georgia House of Representatives. Born on March 20, 1979, she grew up in the Ben Hill and Welcome All neighborhoods of South Fulton, attending Atlanta Public Schools as a product of the district. As the eldest daughter of hardworking parents, she developed a strong commitment to education and social justice. McQueen is a current high school math teacher, positioning her as the only active public school teacher in the State House. She serves on the Board of Directors for TAMTAM Global, a non-profit focused on research into Black women’s health. Her key priorities include advocating for a well-funded public education system, expanding Medicaid for affordable healthcare, protecting voting rights through automatic voter registration and expanded early voting, opposing voter suppression, and restoring voting rights for formerly incarcerated individuals.
Education and Political Experience
