Biography
Max Burns is a Republican Georgia State Senator representing District 23, which includes Burke, Emanuel, Glascock, Jefferson, Jenkins, McDuffie, Screven, Taliaferro, and Warren counties, as well as parts of Columbia and Richmond counties. Born November 8, 1948, in Millen, Georgia, and raised in rural Screven County, he was first sworn in to the Senate on January 11, 2021, and reelected to a third term on November 5, 2024. Notable achievements include serving as U.S. Representative for Georgia’s 12th Congressional District , President of Gordon State College , and Dean of the Mike Cottrell College of Business at the University of North Georgia. He currently chairs the Senate Higher Education Committee and the Ethics Committee, and serves as an ex-officio member of Appropriations. Burns resides in Sylvania, Georgia, with his wife Lora; they have two sons and three grandchildren.
