Biography
Maureen Rowan is a Democratic Assemblywoman representing District 2 in New Jersey, covering Atlantic County municipalities including Absecon, Atlantic City, Brigantine, Egg Harbor Township, Galloway, Hamilton , Linwood, Longport, Margate City, Northfield, Pleasantville, Port Republic, Somers Point, and Ventnor City. A retired trial attorney with over 35 years of experience, she previously served as owner and managing partner of her own law firm, overseeing operations and client advocacy. She ousted two-term Republican incumbent Claire Swift in a close election, becoming the first Democratic woman to represent Atlantic County in the legislature. Rowan focuses on economic justice, affordable healthcare, and quality education for her district.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Earned a Bachelor of Arts from LaSalle College and a Juris Doctor from Temple University.
- Political Experience: Elected to the New Jersey General Assembly in District 2, applying her legal and business expertise to advocate for Atlantic County residents. Originally from Philadelphia, she moved to Atlantic City about seven years prior to her election and registered to vote in New Jersey in 2021.
