Biography
Maureen Mooney
Maureen Mooney is a Republican member of the New Hampshire House of Representatives representing Hillsborough 12. She has resided in Merrimack for over two decades and is currently in her sixth term in the state legislature, serving from 2002 to 2008 and again from 2020 to present.
Throughout her career, Mooney has held significant leadership positions within the New Hampshire Republican Party. She has served as secretary of the New Hampshire Republican State Committee and chaired the Platform Committee. She was appointed as a delegate to the Republican National Convention in 2008 and as a member of the Electoral College for the Republican Presidential nominee in 2012.
In 2014, Mooney ran as a candidate for the New Hampshire State Senate in Senate District 11, finishing second in the Republican primary. She has also been involved in various political campaigns, including serving as a consultant and conservative outreach director for John McCain's 2008 presidential campaign in New Hampshire.
Education
Mooney holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Thomas More College of Liberal Arts and a *Juris Doctor * from Massachusetts School of Law in Andover. She completed studies in Classical Humanities, Art, and Architecture in Rome, Italy and Vatican City in 1995.
Political Experience
In the state legislature, Mooney has served on numerous committees and held various leadership roles. She currently serves as *Vice Chairman of the Finance Committee * and is a co-chair of the Speaker's Advisory Group. Previously, she served as Assistant Republican Leader and Assistant Majority Whip. She was appointed Clerk of the Judiciary Committee, where she served for three terms, and chaired the Special Committee on Eminent Domain, which drafted constitutional language adopted by voters in 2006.
Between her legislative service, Mooney worked as Associate Dean at a history completion college from 2009 to 2014, serving nontraditional students seeking law school admission. From 2014 to 2020, she held leadership positions at a charter school focused on character, leadership, history, and liberty for grades 6-12. Upon her departure, the school named its library after her.
