Biography
Maureen Bauer is a Democratic state representative for District 6 in the Indiana House of Representatives, covering portions of St. Joseph County in northern Indiana, including South Bend. Born and raised in South Bend, she is the daughter of two former public school teachers and lives in the same neighborhood today. Notable achievements include authoring three bipartisan bills signed into law during her second term, such as House Enrolled Act 1219, which established a pilot program to monitor PFAS levels in firefighters' blood. She serves as Co-Chair of the Indiana General Assembly’s Future Caucus, and holds positions on the Public Defender Commission, Doula Reimbursement Board, Indiana University South Bend Advisory Board, and Youth Service Bureau Board. In 2023, she was selected as a Great Lakes Legislative Caucus Birkholz Institute Fellow. Her professional background includes work in sustainable agriculture, such as small vineyards in the Lake Michigan area, and she has started her own business supporting grape growers.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Graduate of John Adams High School in South Bend and Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis .
- Political Experience: Elected to represent District 6 as a Democrat; currently in her second term. Serves on the Courts and Criminal Code Committee, Environmental Affairs Committee, Judiciary Committee, and Public Health Committee. Achieved a 95% Pro-Consumer Voting Percentage in 2022 and received $2,200 in campaign contributions that year.
