Biography
Matthew J. Schindler is a Democratic member of the Maryland House of Delegates representing District 2B . Born on November 22, 1983, in Hagerstown, Maryland, he was sworn into the House on January 7, 2025, following the resignation of Delegate Brooke Grossman. Prior to this, he served on the Hagerstown City Council from 2023 to 2024, after an unsuccessful 2020 bid. Schindler has sponsored legislation on housing, public safety, labor, education, and public health, and currently serves on the Appropriations Committee and the Government, Labor, and Elections Committee. He also holds positions on the Senator George Edwards Fund, University Systems of Maryland Hagerstown Advisory Council, Community Action Council board, and Washington County Local Management Board. Previously, he was involved with the Hagerstown City Planning Commission, Ethics Commission, CDBG Citizen Committee, Friends of Safe Place , and Federal Little League board. A cybersecurity professional, he is raising one son and coaches youth sports.
Education and Political Experience
Education: Schindler attended Potomac Heights Elementary, Salem Avenue Elementary, and Western Heights Middle School in Hagerstown. He graduated from North Hagerstown High School in 2001, Hagerstown Community College in 2003, and the University of Maryland Global Campus with a B.S. in Computer Networks and Cybersecurity in 2021.
