Biography
Matt Soper is a Republican politician representing Colorado House District 54, which includes parts of Mesa and Delta counties on Colorado's Western Slope. He descends from a farming family in Delta County since 1887, was born and raised in Delta, works as a professional researcher and writer, and continues farming alfalfa on his small farm while serving irrigation duties. In 2026, he announced his candidacy for the Delta County Board of County Commissioners.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Graduated from Delta High School; earned an undergraduate degree from Colorado Mesa University; holds law degrees from the University of Edinburgh School of Law and the University of New Hampshire’s Franklin Pierce School of Law.
- Political Experience: Elected to the Colorado House of Representatives for District 54; serves as Ranking Member on the House Judiciary Committee, member of the House Agriculture, Water, & Natural Resources Committee, Vice Chair of the Committee on Legal Services, and member of the Water Resources & Agriculture Review Committee and House Appropriations Committee.
