Biography
Matthew B. Rinker is a Republican representative for Iowa House District 99, which includes parts of northeastern Lee County and southern Des Moines County, such as Burlington and West Burlington. A small business owner and insurance agent from Burlington, he was elected in 2022 after defeating Democratic incumbent Dennis Cohoon in a close race requiring a recount, which he won by over 400 votes. Previously, he served on the Burlington City Council from 2017 to 2021 and ran unsuccessfully for Iowa Senate District 44 in 2020. Rinker served eight years in the U.S. Navy as a master-at-arms, with active duty in El Centro, California; Souda Bay, Greece; and Kirkuk, Iraq. He is married to Sophie and has four daughters and one son. Notable committee assignments include Public Safety, Veterans Affairs, Labor, and Health and Human Services Budget Subcommittee.

Education: Associate of Arts from Southeastern Community College; Bachelor’s in Political Science and Economics from Western Illinois University.
