Biography

Matt Pinnell, born Philip Matthew Pinnell on August 15, 1979, is a Republican politician serving as the 17th Lieutenant Governor of Oklahoma since January 2019. Elected on November 6, 2018, he presides over the Oklahoma State Senate and chairs key commissions including the Oklahoma Tourism Commission and Route 66 Centennial Commission. His agenda emphasizes workforce development, economic growth, small business support, and tourism promotion. Previously, he served as the first Oklahoma Secretary of Tourism and Branding from 2019 to March 2024. Notable achievements include launching a statewide rebrand in 2020 to streamline agency processes and save taxpayer dollars, leading efforts on Opportunity Zones, and being appointed Chair of the National Policy Committee of the Aerospace States Association in February 2025. As a small business owner with his wife Lisa, an entrepreneur and inventor, he resides in Tulsa with their four children.

Education and Political Experience

  • Education: Graduated from Metro Christian Academy in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and earned a degree in Advertising from Oral Roberts University.
  • Political Experience: Chairman of the Oklahoma Republican Party , where he helped secure all five congressional seats and every statewide office for Republicans; National State Party Director for the Republican National Committee , contributing to Republican Senate control in 2014 and Trump's 2016 win; member of Governor Kevin Stitt’s transition team focusing on economic development and tourism; serves on the Oklahoma Department of Commerce executive committee. Sworn in for a second term as Lieutenant Governor in January 2023.
