Biography
Matt Norris is an American politician and a member of the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party *. He represents *District 32B in the Minnesota House of Representatives, covering Blaine and Lexington in Anoka County in the northern Twin Cities metropolitan area. Elected in 2022, he defeated Republican incumbent Donald Raleigh with 51.12% of the vote and assumed office on January 3, 2023. Norris resides in Blaine, Minnesota, and is single. His occupation is listed as a lawyer and nonprofit legislator.
Notable achievements include authoring 24 bills that became law in 2023, earning awards such as the League of Minnesota Cities Legislator of Distinction, Clean Water Action Minnesota Ambassador Award, and MICAH Community Hero Award. In 2024, he passed standalone bills including the Veterans and Military Affairs Policy Bill and the Minnesota Cooperative Housing Act . Earlier, he founded initiatives like the Brooklyn Bridge Alliance for Youth , Minnesota Afterschool Advance , and delivered computers to over 1,300 families during the 2020 pandemic.
He currently serves as vice chair of the Taxes Committee and as a member of the Housing Finance and Policy, Transportation Finance and Policy, Veterans and Military Affairs Finance and Policy, and Human Services Finance and Policy committees. Policy priorities include doubling funding for trade training in affordable housing programs and increasing the homestead market value exclusion cap.
Education and Political Experience
Education: Bachelor of Science in Business in marketing and management information systems from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities; Juris Doctor from the University of Minnesota Law School.
Early Experience: Grew up in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota. At age 16 , appointed first youth liaison to Brooklyn Park’s Citizen Long-Range Improvement Committee. Interned for U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar ; law clerk for U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee . Youth planner for Brooklyn Park ; policy director at Youthprise nonprofit; co-chair of Leadership Twin Cities .
Political Career: Elected to Minnesota House in 2022 . Previously volunteered on Minneapolis NCAA Final Four planning team .
