Biography

Representative Matt Morgan

Matt Morgan is a Republican state representative representing Texas House District 26, which includes parts of Fort Bend County. He was born in Houston, Texas, and comes from a prominent Texas family with roots dating back nearly 200 years—his ancestral family moved to Texas with Stephen F. Austin as part of the original 300 settlers in 1825.

Morgan is a dedicated community advocate with a history of public service. He is an Eagle Scout and received the Young American Award. In 1993, the City of Houston proclaimed a day in his honor for his service to the community. He has served on the board of directors for Lamar Little League and as a committee member for Cub Scout Pack 10. Through Habitat for Humanity, Morgan helped build homes for those in need, and he collected over 100,000 books for a literacy organization in Houston, where he formed a lifelong acquaintance with former First Lady Barbara Bush.

Education

Morgan graduated from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville with a bachelor's degree in business.

Political Experience

Morgan was elected to the Texas House in 2024 after a successful political campaign. He defeated incumbent Jacey Jetton in the Republican primary in March 2024, and then won the general election in November 2024 with 59.2% of the vote against Democratic candidate Daniel Lee. He assumed office on January 14, 2025.

As a state representative, Morgan has identified several legislative priorities including border security, property tax relief, government spending, and insurance reform. He emphasizes faithfully representing the will of his constituents and advocates for fairness and collaboration among lawmakers.

Professional Background

Morgan is a public insurance adjuster licensed in Texas, Georgia, and Colorado. After years working for major insurance companies, he founded Morgan Elite Specialist Services, LLC in 2015 to represent policyholders who have suffered losses, allowing him to better serve clients directly rather than insurance companies.
