Biography
Representative Matt Marshall is a Republican serving Washington's 2nd Legislative District, which includes Eastern Pierce County and parts of North Thurston County . Born and raised in Washington state, he has lived across the state and has a family including three daughters . Marshall practices as an orthopedic surgery physician assistant specializing in sports medicine and orthopedic urgent care, with over a dozen years of experience.
Education and Political Experience
Marshall began his public service as a firefighter EMT immediately after high school, later serving in the military as a combat medic and completing Army physician assistant school. Politically, he joined the Republican Party in 2018 after leaving the military, serving as a Precinct Committee Officer and vice chair of the 2nd District Republicans; he was elected to a school board in 2019. As state representative for Position 2, he serves on the Health Care & Wellness , Appropriations, and Education committees, plus the Civil Legal Aid Oversight and Educational Opportunity Gap Oversight & Accountability joint committees. Notable focuses include expanding mental health access and improving school funding allocation models.
