Biography of Representative Matt Maddock
Matthew Maddock is a Republican member of the Michigan House of Representatives, currently serving the 51st district since 2019. Born December 11, 1965, he is a lifelong Oakland County resident who grew up in West Bloomfield.
Maddock is married to Meshawn and has three children: Gunther, Winsome, and Parker. The family resides in Milford and is active in their community through Cornerstone Church in Highland, where Matt volunteers with the church's youth ministry.
Education
Maddock attended Orchard Lake St. Mary's for his secondary education and later studied at Oakland Community College.
Political Experience
Maddock was first elected to the Michigan House of Representatives in 2018, initially representing the 44th district before redistricting placed him in the 51st district. He has been reelected in subsequent cycles, including most recently in 2024.
As a conservative Republican, his legislative priorities focus on lowering energy costs and cutting taxes to enhance Michigan's competitiveness for job creation. Within the legislature, he serves as Vice Chair of the Appropriations Committee and Vice Chair of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Michigan State Police. During his first term, he was appointed Chairman of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation and Chairman of the Joint Committee on Administrative Rules.
Prior to his election to the state legislature, Maddock was an established businessman in Oakland County. He has served as president of A-1 Bail Bonds, Michigan's largest bail agency, for over 27 years and has employed more than 60 people. He is also a licensed private detective. Additionally, he founded The Michigan Conservative Coalition and has been active as a grassroots conservative leader.
