Biography
Edward Matthew Lockett was born on June 8, 1974, and serves as a Republican member of the Kentucky House of Representatives representing the 39th House district since January 2021. His district comprises parts of Fayette and Jessamine counties, with his home city listed as Nicholasville. Lockett is currently employed as a financial adviser at Family Wealth Group and identifies as Christian.
Education
Lockett earned a Bachelor of Science in Political Science from Murray State University and later completed a Master of Arts from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.
Political Experience
Lockett has held several significant positions in both public service and political organizations. He previously served as director of the Kentucky Department of Insurance, overseeing both the Health and Life division and the Property and Casualty division. He also worked as a financial services professional prior to his legislative career.
In addition to his current role in the state legislature, Lockett served as former chair of the Jessamine County Republican Party. In the 2024 election cycle, he ran unopposed in the Republican primary and won the general election with 12,660 votes against Democratic candidate Ryan Stanford.
Lockett is active in community service, serving as a member of the Jessamine County Chamber of Commerce and volunteering with the Alzheimer's Association. He also holds the honorary title of Kentucky Colonel.
