Biography
Matthew L. LaMountain is a Democratic member of the Rhode Island Senate representing District 31, which encompasses Warwick and Cranston. Born February 19, 1985, he was born and raised in Rhode Island, growing up in Providence, North Providence, and East Providence. He currently resides in Warwick with his wife, Cassandra, and their two children, Desmond and Nora.
Education
LaMountain is a graduate of Mount Saint Charles Academy, Salve Regina University, and Suffolk University School of Law. He is a member of the Suffolk Law Public Interest Group.
Political Experience
Elected to the Senate in November 2022, LaMountain brings extensive experience in public service and law practice. From 2011 to 2019, he served as a prosecutor in the Rhode Island Office of Attorney General, specializing in cybercrime and digital evidence. He subsequently served as assistant city solicitor for the City of Warwick from 2019 to 2021.
In the Senate, he holds the position of Deputy Senate President Pro Tempore and serves as Chair of the Senate Committee on Judiciary. He is also a member of the Senate Committee on Rules, Government Ethics & Oversight. LaMountain currently operates his own law practice in Warwick.
