Biography
Matthew Heilman is a Republican who served in the North Dakota House of Representatives for District 7 from 2023 until announcing he would not seek reelection, describing it as a pause in public service. A member of the far-right faction of the Republican Party, he is known for positions opposing sanctuary cities, supporting mass deportations, ending birthright citizenship, and sponsoring parental rights bills like HB 1403, HB 1488, and SB 2260. He also serves as Vice Chair of the North Dakota Young Republicans, a Hazlitt Coalition member, and was involved in the legislative coalition to end property tax.
