Matt Hanson is a Democratic state representative for Illinois House District 83, serving since January 2023 in the 104th General Assembly. He represents parts of Kane and Kendall Counties in the Fox River Valley, including all or parts of St. Charles, Geneva, Batavia, North Aurora, Aurora, Montgomery, Oswego, and surrounding areas. A railroad engineer at BNSF Railway and officer in SMART-TD Local 171, Hanson was elected in 2022, defeating Republican Keith Wheeler. He serves on the Historic Preservation Commission in Aurora and the METRA Citizens Advisory Board, and is an active church and community volunteer.

Education and Political Experience

• Education: B.S. in Business Administration from the University of Richmond; graduated high school in Hong Kong.
• Political Experience: Former member of the Kane County Board and Kane County Forest Preserve Commission; current Illinois House Representative for District 83 .
