Matt Frumin is the Ward 3 member of the Council of the District of Columbia, assuming office on January 2, 2023, after defeating predecessor Mary Cheh with over three-quarters of the vote in November 2022. A longtime Ward 3 resident and community activist, he previously worked as an international trade attorney for over 30 years and served as a political appointee at the US Department of State during the Clinton Administration, focusing on democracy, human rights, labor, and the rule of law. Notable achievements include chairing the Board of the Lisner Louise Dickson Hurt Home to secure Ward 3's first Housing Production Trust Fund award for senior affordable housing; serving six years on the Tenleytown Main Street board ; leading the Coalition for DC Public Schools and Communities and launching the Ward 3 Education Network; and advocating for school improvements at Janney Elementary, Deal Middle, Wilson High School , and citywide. His priorities include alleviating school overcrowding, expanding affordable housing via the "Ward 3 for All" initiative, enhancing green spaces, accessible transit, teacher retention, small businesses, and support for seniors and local arts.
