Biography
Matt Blumenthal is a Democratic member of the Connecticut House of Representatives, representing the 147th District in Fairfield County, which includes parts of Stamford. A trial attorney and former U.S. Marine Corps Reserve infantry officer, he assumed office in 2019 after winning election with 59% of the vote, endorsed by former President Barack Obama. He was re-elected in 2020 , 2022 , and 2024.
Notable achievements include co-authoring Connecticut's first early voting law , the John R. Lewis Connecticut Voting Rights Act , and the first major Freedom of Information Act reform in 40 years. He led passage of the ban on ghost guns and 3D-printed guns, safe firearm storage laws, and updates to the red-flag law. Blumenthal authored the Reproductive Freedom Defense Act , a national model for protecting reproductive and gender-affirming care, adopted by 16 states and D.C. He chairs the Government Administration and Elections Committee, vice-chaired Judiciary , and co-founded the Reproductive Rights Caucus.

- Education: Bachelor's degree with high honors from Harvard University; Juris Doctor from Yale Law School.
- Early Career: Judicial law clerk for Chief Judge Diane P. Wood . At Yale, represented veterans, helping pass a law crediting military skills for civilian jobs and securing visas for an Afghan interpreter. Trial attorney at Koskoff, Koskoff & Bieder, P.C., licensed in Connecticut and New York.
- Military Service: Infantry officer in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve, commanding a rifle platoon in Charlie Company, 1st Battalion, 25th Marines.
- Political Roles: Serves on Judiciary, Transportation, and Government Administration and Elections committees. Leader on gun violence prevention, voting rights, women's and LGBTQ+ rights, justice system transparency, and utility accountability. Board member, Boys & Girls Club of Stamford.
