Biography
Matt Birong is a Democratic representative for Addison-3 in the Vermont House of Representatives, serving since 2019. Born on May 23, 1977, in Burlington, Vermont, and raised in Essex, he resides in Vergennes, Addison County. A lifelong Vermonter, Birong is a chef and entrepreneur who owned 3 Squares Café in Vergennes from 2007, focusing on locally sourced food and Vermont's farm-to-table movement. He is also a partner in Cacao Bosque/Reserva Zorzal, an agricultural and environmental project in the Dominican Republic. Notable achievements include being named a Rising Star/40 under 40 by Vermont Business Magazine in 2016 and serving as a Vermont delegate to the Democratic National Convention that year, supporting Sen. Bernie Sanders. He is married to real estate broker Danelle Lello Birong and they have a rescue dog named Luna. Birong currently chairs the House Committee on Government Operations and Military Affairs, co-chairs the Canvassing Committee, serves as clerk of the Joint Public Pension Oversight Committee, and is co-chair ex officio of the County and Regional Governance Study Committee.
