Biography
Matt Ball is a Democratic State Senator representing Senate District 31 in central Denver, Colorado. A fifth-generation Coloradan living in Capitol Hill with his wife and three young children, he was appointed to the seat in January 2025 by a Democratic vacancy committee to replace Sen. Chris Hansen, winning after five rounds of voting against six competitors. He serves as Vice Chair of the Transportation & Energy Committee and is a member of the Senate Judiciary, State, Veterans, and Military Affairs, and Capitol Building Advisory Committees. Notable achievements include his Army service in the 75th Ranger Regiment with four overseas deployments and two Bronze Stars, statewide awards for criminal justice work, and creating Denver's Roads to Recovery program as Director of Policy to connect individuals with addiction and mental illness to treatment services.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Attended Stanford Law School on the GI Bill after college.
- Military Service: Joined the Army instead of a Wall Street job; served in the elite 75th Ranger Regiment, deployed overseas four times, earned two Bronze Stars, and continues in the Army Reserves.
