Biography
Maryam Khan is a Democratic representative for Connecticut's 5th District, which includes Hartford, South Windsor, and Windsor. She was elected in a 2022 special election, becoming the first Muslim member of the Connecticut House of Representatives, and was re-elected in November 2022 for her first full term. Currently serving as Deputy Majority Leader , she lives in Windsor and advocates for education, special needs students, housing, and victim protections.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Earned a B.S. in child psychology from Eastern Connecticut State University and an M.S. in special education from Central Connecticut State University.
- Professional Experience: Worked as a special education teacher for Hartford Public Schools and Albert I. Prince Technical High School.
- Political Experience: Served as Vice President of the Windsor Board of Education, focusing on quality education access, community infrastructure, and inclusion. Elected to the Connecticut House in 2022 .
