Biography
Mary Mushinsky is a Democratic representative for Connecticut's 85th House District in Wallingford. First elected in 1980 as a 29-year-old political organizer and public-interest lobbyist for the Connecticut Citizen Action Group, she became the longest-serving member of the Connecticut House, winning 23 general elections. She announced her retirement in February 2026, planning not to seek re-election and concluding her 46th year in the General Assembly.
Education and Political Experience
- Pre-political career: Worked as an organizer and lobbyist focused on public-interest issues inspired by Ralph Nader.
- Elected service: Entered the House in 1980 on a platform of environmental activism, consumer advocacy, and improved energy policies; currently serves until January 6, 2027.
