Biography
Mary Moore
Mary Moore was born on July 23, 1948, in Birmingham, Alabama. She is a member of the Democratic Party and currently serves in the Alabama House of Representatives representing District 59, a position she has held since 2002. Moore resides in North Birmingham, specifically in the ACIPCO Finley neighborhood.
Before entering the state legislature, Moore worked as a medical technologist at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Birmingham from 1971 to 2000. She has been actively involved in her community through various organizational roles, including serving as President of the American Cast Iron Pipe Company Finley Neighborhood and as a member of Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church.
Education
Moore holds multiple degrees and certifications:
- Bachelor of Science in Biology from Tuskegee University
- Certificate in Medical Technology from the University of Alabama at Birmingham
- Master of Business Administration in Human Resource Development from Alabama A&M University
Political Experience
Moore's public service began before her state legislative career. She served on the Birmingham City School Board from 1998 to 2002, where she gained experience in education policy and community governance.
Since joining the Alabama House of Representatives in 2002, Moore has been assigned to various committees focused on constituent services and policy development, including the Children and Senior Advocacy Committee, Jefferson County Legislation Committee, and the Technology and Research Committee. She has sponsored numerous pieces of legislation throughout her tenure and previously served as Ranking Minority Member of the Local Legislation Committee. Moore was re-elected in the 2022 general election to continue representing her district.
