Biography
Mary Duffy Messier is a Democratic member of the Rhode Island House of Representatives, representing District 62 in Pawtucket, a position she has held since a special election in December 2009. A lifelong Pawtucket resident and retired elementary school teacher from Cumberland, she serves as Deputy Majority Leader , first vice chair of the House Labor Committee and the House State Government and Elections Committee, and member of the House Innovation and Technology Committee and House Oversight Committee. Notable achievements include co-sponsoring laws expanding Medicare supplement policies to patients with disabilities like end-stage renal disease, repealing sub-minimum wage for workers with disabilities, requiring accreditation for distance learning institutions , mandating public hearings for health insurance rate increases , and providing education courses on various topics .
