Representative Mary Jo Daley

Mary Josephine Daley was born on September 16, 1949, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She is a Democratic member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, representing the 148th District in Montgomery County since 2013.

Before her election to the state legislature, Daley served her community extensively through local government. She was a member of Narberth Borough Council for 20 years, beginning in 1991, and served as council president for the final 10 years of her tenure. Between 1992 and 2013, she held positions as a financial and administrative official for the University of Pennsylvania, eventually serving as Chief Financial Officer.

Education

Daley earned an Associate's degree in science from Gwynedd Mercy College in 1969 and a Bachelor of Business Administration in business administration from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, graduating between 1980 and 1987.

Political Experience

Daley was first elected to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 2012 after the Montgomery County Democratic Committee selected her to replace retiring Representative Michael F. Gerber. She has been continuously re-elected to serve five consecutive terms.

Currently, Daley serves as Majority Chair of the House Tourism & Economic & Recreational Development Committee and is a member of the House Rules Committee. She also co-chairs the bicameral, bipartisan Women's Health Caucus and serves as one of five co-chairs of the Irish American Caucus.

Her legislative priorities include protecting women's rights, fighting for non-discrimination protections in Pennsylvania, and advocating for adequate, equitable, and sustainable funding for Pennsylvania's public schools. Additionally, Daley is a founding member and co-chair of Emerge Pennsylvania, an organization that works to support Democratic women candidates.
