Biography
Mary Felzkowski is a Republican politician representing Wisconsin's 12th Senate District, a large area in northern Wisconsin. Born Mary Jean Behling on September 25, 1963, in Tomahawk, Wisconsin, she is a lifelong resident of Lincoln County and a businesswoman owning C.I.S. Insurance Group. She has served as President of the Wisconsin Senate since January 2025, after being elected to the Senate in 2020. Previously, she represented the 35th Assembly District in the Wisconsin State Assembly from 2012 to 2020, including as Assistant Majority Leader in the 2019–2020 session. Notable achievements include chairing committees on forestry, small business, insurance, licensing, and state-tribal relations; serving four terms on the budget-writing Joint Finance Committee; and advocating for medical cannabis legalization while opposing Medicaid expansion. She is a lifetime NRA member, enjoys outdoor activities like motorcycling and snowmobiling, and has two children, two step-children, and three grandchildren.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Graduated from Tomahawk High School in 1981; earned a Bachelor of Science in Economics and Finance from the University of Wisconsin–River Falls in 1986.
- Political Experience: Elected to Wisconsin State Assembly in 2012, serving four terms until 2020; elected to Wisconsin State Senate in 2020; Senate President since 2025, overseeing Senate floor activities. Comes from a family of independent business owners, including her father's tree farm and insurance agency.
