Biography
Representative Mary Dye
Mary Lurintha "Mary Lou" Dye was born on June 15, 1961. She is an American politician from Washington and a Republican member of the Washington House of Representatives representing District 9, Position 1. Dye resides in Pomeroy, Washington, with her husband, Roger Dye, and their three children. Together, they operate a wheat farm near Pomeroy. Prior to her legislative service, Dye worked as an agriculture educator for the U.S. Peace Corps in Thailand from 1984 to 1986. In 2020, she was recognized as a Guardian of Small Business by the NFIB.
Education
In 1983, Dye earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Plant Science/Crop Management from the University of Idaho. She later graduated from the Pacific NorthWest Economic Region Foundation's Legislative Energy Horizon Institute in 2018.
Political Experience
Dye was appointed to the Washington House of Representatives for District 9 on May 8, 2015. She filled the vacancy created when State Representative Susan Fagan resigned amid allegations of fraud and theft regarding expense reimbursements. Although Dye was the second choice of the Republican Precinct Committee Officers, she secured the appointment. On November 3, 2015, she won the election for Position 1, defeating Richard Lathim. She was subsequently re-elected in 2016, 2018, and 2020.
In the legislature, Dye serves as the Ranking Minority Member for the Environment & Energy House of Representatives Committee. She is also a member of the Appropriations and Capital Budget House of Representatives Committees. Her joint committee memberships include the Puget Sound Partnership Ecosystem Coordination Board, Pacific Northwest Economic Region Delegate Council, Washington Food Policy Forum, Washington State Women's Commission, and the Alternative Jet Fuels Work Group. She serves as a Committee Alternate for CSG West's Legislative Council on River Governance.
