Biography
Mary Beth Carozza is a Republican Maryland State Senator representing District 38, which includes Somerset, Worcester, and Wicomico Counties. Born Mary Elizabeth Rubin Carozza on February 13, 1961, she was raised in Ocean City, Maryland, where she worked in her family's business, Beefy's. She has held key roles such as Deputy Chief of Staff to Maryland Governor Bob Ehrlich , Deputy Chief of Staff to U.S. Senator Susan M. Collins , Minority Staff Director for the U.S. Senate Homeland Security Committee , and Chief of Staff to U.S. Representative Steve Stivers . On 9/11, while at the Pentagon, she helped maintain communications and received the Secretary of Defense Medal for Outstanding Public Service. Elected to the Maryland House of Delegates for District 38C , she won a Senate seat in 2018 and was sworn in on January 9, 2019. Notable achievements include recognition as a Municipal Super Star by the Maryland Municipal League in 2020 for advocacy on behalf of local governments, and leadership as Senate Chair of the Somerset and Worcester Counties Delegations .
