Biography
Representative Marvin Lim
Marvin Certeza Lim is a Filipino-American Democratic member of the Georgia House of Representatives, representing District 98 in portions of Gwinnett County, including parts of Norcross, Lilburn, and Tucker. Elected in 2020 and serving since 2021, he is Georgia's first Filipino-American state representative and focuses on immigrant rights, housing, public safety, and community funding, having secured over $40 million for his district, including $22.5 million through his nonprofit Lucky Shoals Community Association.
Born April 7, 1984, in the Philippines, Lim immigrated to Georgia at age seven with his family seeking better opportunities. Growing up on public assistance in a lower-income immigrant household, he represents large Asian and Hispanic communities in his district, the Georgia House district with the highest concentration of immigrants. A civil rights and securities attorney at Holcomb + Ward, LLP since 2015, he has worked with Catholic Charities on job development for refugees and immigrants, the ACLU of Georgia, and Giffords Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence. His legislative record includes introducing 145 bills and resolutions as first sponsor, addressing street racing, housing , indoor air quality, language access, and federal funding allocation; one bill was signed into law by the Governor. Notable achievements include sponsoring the Freedom to Drive Act for driver's license access regardless of immigration status, restoring indigent medical care funding in Gwinnett County, winning community petitions against unwanted rezonings, and securing speed humps for high-risk neighborhoods. A Fulbright Scholar, term member of the Council on Foreign Relations, and avid marathoner/Ironman, he writes on law, religion, and ethics.
