Biography

Mark D. Sylvia is a Democrat representing Massachusetts' 10th Bristol District, which includes parts of Acushnet, Fairhaven, New Bedford, Marion, Mattapoisett, and Rochester in Bristol and Plymouth counties. A lifelong Fairhaven resident born on April 27, 1974, he was elected to the Massachusetts House of Representatives on November 5, 2024, and began his first term in January 2025, succeeding longtime Rep. Bill Straus. Notable achievements include serving as the youngest Town Manager in Massachusetts history at age 30 in Plymouth , where he managed a $141 million budget, negotiated a major tax agreement with a nuclear power plant, upgraded the town's bond rating, and led a $199 million public vote for school renovations and a senior center. In state government under Gov. Deval Patrick, he held pioneering energy roles, implementing clean energy policies that ranked Massachusetts #1 in energy efficiency for four years, exceeded solar goals early, and designated 155 communities as "Green Communities." He currently chairs the Alltrust Credit Union Board and serves as Fairhaven Town Moderator since 2008.
