Biography
Marvin M. "Mark" Smith is a Republican member of the South Carolina House of Representatives, representing District 99 . Born on June 18, 1970, in Bamberg, South Carolina, he is a businessman serving as president and CEO of McAlister-Smith Funeral Homes, Avinger Funeral Home, and Palmetto Cremation Society. He has represented District 99 since 2020, following prior service on the Mount Pleasant Town Council from 2013 to 2017. Notable achievements include earning the highest rating in the South Carolina House during the 2024 legislative session, past leadership roles such as chairman of the Roper St. Francis Mt. Pleasant Hospital Board , past president of the East Cooper and Daniel Island Republican Clubs, and involvement in community organizations like the Lowcountry Food Bank and South Carolina Alzheimer's Association. In August 2025, he launched a campaign for South Carolina's 1st Congressional District.
