Biography
Mark Shirey is a Republican member of the Alabama House of Representatives, representing District 100 in Mobile County since November 9, 2022. A native of DeKalb County, Alabama, he moved to Mobile two decades ago with his wife, where they raised a daughter and operated a successful optometry practice for 20 years. He is a lifelong conservative Republican and former president of the Alabama Optometric Association, where he helped write legislation to improve eye care access for Alabamians. Shirey was elected in 2022 against Libertarian opponent Peyton Warren and is running for re-election in the 2026 primary. In 2018, he unsuccessfully ran for the Republican nomination in Alabama Senate District 34.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Earned a Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology from the University of Alabama at Birmingham; Doctorate of Optometry from the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee.
