Biography
Mark Joseph Peake is a Republican member of the Virginia State Senate representing District 8, which includes all of Bedford County, Campbell County, and the City of Lynchburg. Born on January 19, 1963, in Greensboro, North Carolina, and raised in Roanoke, Virginia, he is an attorney married to Lila A. Peake with a Methodist religious affiliation. He won a special election on January 10, 2017, to succeed Tom Garrett Jr. in the 22nd District and continued serving after redistricting placed him in the 8th District in January 2024. Notable achievements include his election as chair of the Republican Party of Virginia on April 12, 2025, a role he stepped down from effective December 31, 2025, following the 2025 elections. He emphasizes conservative principles such as fiscal responsibility, free enterprise, limited government, and constitutional protections for individual liberties, and serves on commissions like the Commission on Updating Virginia Law to Reflect Federal Recognition of Virginia Tribes.
