Biography
Mark Mullet
Mark Douglas Mullet was born on August 14, 1972, and is an American businessman and Democratic politician. He was born and raised in Tukwila, Washington, and has lived in the Issaquah Highlands neighborhood since 2006 with his wife Kelley and their six children. Kelley has taught in the Issaquah School District for 25 years, and all six of their children attended Issaquah High School.
Before entering public service, Mullet worked in international finance for over twelve years at UBS and Bank of America. He spent five years working for UBS in London and later served as the Global Head of Currency Derivatives Trading at Bank of America in New York City before relocating to the Pacific Northwest. In 2009, he transitioned to entrepreneurship and small business ownership, establishing Zeeks Pizza and Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream franchises in the Issaquah and Sammamish areas.
As of 2025, Mullet is the mayor-elect of Issaquah, having won the mayoral race in November 2025.
Education
Mullet graduated Summa Cum Laude with a bachelor's degree in Finance from Indiana University in 1994. He earned a Master's degree in Public Affairs from the Evans School at the University of Washington in 2008. He was the Washington State High School tennis champion in 1989 and 1990.
Political Experience
Mullet served on the Issaquah City Council from 2009 to 2013, where he championed Grand Ridge Plaza, a mixed-use retail center, and implemented a plastic bag ban. He was elected to the Washington State Senate in 2012, representing the 5th Legislative District, which includes Black Diamond, Issaquah, Maple Valley, North Bend, Renton, Sammamish, and Snoqualmie. He served in the state senate from 2012 to 2025.
In the state senate, Mullet held significant committee positions, including Vice Chair of the Senate Ways and Means Committee and leadership of the Senate's capital budget team. He also served on the Senate Early Learning & K-12 Education Committee and the Senate Business, Financial Services, Gaming & Trade Committee.
Notable legislative accomplishments include sponsoring and passing a $400 million property tax cut, expanding college financial aid, legislation to combat credit card fraud, increasing access to epinephrine pens in schools, facilitating the annexation of the Maple Valley Donut Hole, and securing infrastructure funding for projects such as an interchange at S.R. 18 and I-90 and the new Tahoma High School in Maple Valley.
