Biography
Senator Mark McKenney is a Democrat representing District 30 in the Rhode Island Senate, covering much of southern Warwick. Born on October 9, 1956, he is an attorney and small business owner at McKenney, Clarkin & Estey, LLP in Providence. He first served in the Senate from 2019-2020, was re-elected in November 2022, and holds key committee roles including Chair of the Senate Committee on Rules, Government Ethics & Oversight, Vice Chair of the Senate Committee on Judiciary, and Member of the Senate Committee on Education. Notable achievements include playing a pivotal role in reforming Rhode Island's workers' compensation system by uniting business, insurance, and labor leaders, as well as extensive community service as Chair of the State Library Board, President of the Providence Community Library, and President of Literacy Volunteers of Rhode Island. He is married to Tricia and has three adult children: Caitlin, Cara, and Dan.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Graduated from Warwick Public Schools; Bishop Hendricken High School; Boston College; Catholic University - Columbus School of Law. Also studied at the University of Kent at Canterbury, England.
- Political Experience: Elected to the Rhode Island Senate on November 4, 2018, for District 30 . During his first term , served as Secretary of the Senate Committee on Rules, Government Ethics, & Oversight; member of the Senate Committee on Judiciary; and member of the Senate Committee on Special Legislation & Veterans' Affairs. Re-elected in 2022 and currently holds leadership positions in Senate committees.
