Mark Green (TN-7)

Biography

Mark Edward Green is an American politician, physician, and retired U.S. Army surgeon. A Republican, he represented Tennessee's 7th congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives from 2019 until his resignation on July 20, 2025. He previously served in the Tennessee Senate for the 22nd district from 2013 to 2018 and chaired the House Committee on Homeland Security from 2023 to 2025.

Education and Political Experience

Green's professional background includes service as a U.S. Army surgeon. Notable achievements include authoring legislation to end Tennessee's Hall Income Tax—the second state income tax repeal in U.S. history—and co-sponsoring a bill eliminating the statute of limitations on rape cases with known DNA profiles. He earned awards for laws protecting veterans and small businesses and advocated for automated technology in auto manufacturing. A special election on December 2, 2025, filled his seat with Republican Matt Van Epps.
