Biography
Mark M. Gillen is a Republican member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, serving the 128th Legislative District since 2011. The district covers parts of southern Berks County, including Amity Township, Birdsboro Borough, Caernarvon Township, Cumru Township, and Robeson Township. He lives in Robeson Township with his wife, Kim, and their five daughters. Previously a Mohnton borough councilman, Gillen's priorities include eliminating wasteful spending, reducing state government size, and abolishing property taxes. Notable positions include Chairman of the House Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness Committee, and service on the Aging and Older Adult Services, Education, Labor and Industry committees.
Education and Political Experience
Prior to election, Gillen worked as a Pennsylvania correctional officer, an ACT 48 Certified Teacher, educational director of the Salt and Light Foundation on international projects, and an EMT with over 30 years of experience. Elected in 2010 to succeed Republican Sam Rohrer, he has focused on supporting local firefighters and emergency services, such as awarding grants to fire companies and recognizing heroic responses.
