Biography

Mark S. Chang

Political Party: Democrat

District: 32, Anne Arundel County, Maryland

Mark S. Chang was born in Glen Burnie, Maryland in 1976. His parents immigrated from South Korea in the mid-1970s and opened a carry-out business in an underserved area of Annapolis. His mother passed away from a brain aneurysm during his childhood, leaving his father as the family's sole breadwinner. Chang grew up facing economic hardship and discrimination, experiences that shaped his commitment to public service and progressive causes.

Chang became the first Asian-American to serve in the Executive Branch of Anne Arundel County Government and is the first Asian-American elected to the Maryland House of Delegates from Anne Arundel County.

Education

Chang attended Glen Burnie High School and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from the University of Maryland Baltimore County, graduating cum laude. He later obtained a Master of Business Administration from Loyola University in 2010.

He has also championed legislation addressing hate crimes and expanding voter access.
