Biography
Representative Marilyn Lands
Marilyn Lands is a Democratic member of the Alabama House of Representatives, representing District 10 in Huntsville. She was elected in a March 2024 special election, winning with over 62 percent of the vote and flipping the formerly Republican-held seat.
A Huntsville native, Lands has been an active community member for over thirty years. She is a wife and mother who has held leadership positions including past festival chair of Panoply of the Arts, past board chair of The Arts Council, and a member of Leadership Huntsville/Madison County .
Her campaign centered on reproductive rights, opposing Alabama's abortion ban and supporting in vitro fertilization following the state Supreme Court's controversial ruling that frozen embryos are considered children. She was endorsed by Planned Parenthood during her election.

Lands holds multiple advanced degrees:

- Master of Science in Management from the University of Alabama in Huntsville

Professionally, Lands works as a Licensed Professional Counselor in private practice and serves as a Supervising Counselor for aspiring clinicians. She previously worked over a decade in community mental health, providing individual, family, and group counseling, and has experience in the banking and aerospace industries.
Her legislative priorities include creating economic opportunity, cultivating education, protecting healthcare access, and expanding reproductive freedom. She advocates for repealing Alabama's abortion ban, expanding Medicaid, and investing in community mental health resources. Lands emphasizes bipartisan leadership and relationship-building across the aisle in her legislative approach.
