Marianne Buttenschon is a Democratic Assembly Member representing New York's 119th District, which includes the cities of Utica and Rome, as well as the communities of Floyd, Marcy, Whitestown, and Deerfield. Elected in 2018 and serving since 2019, she is a career educator focused on public service, emergency preparedness, and community development. She is married to Don Buttenschon, a retired public-school psychologist, and they have three grown children and six grandchildren. Notable achievements include chairing the Committee on Export Trade, serving as the Assembly’s representative on the Interoperable and Emergency Communications Board, and launching initiatives like the Urban Leadership Institute: First Responder Academy for high school students in 2025. She also supports food pantries, women's issues, and public safety through various task forces and community roles.

Education and Political Experience

• Education: Earned an AAS from Mohawk Valley Community College and a BA in Public Justice from SUNY . She holds a doctorate and is described as a lifelong learner.
• Professional Experience: Prior to the Assembly, served as Dean of Public Service and Emergency Preparedness, and Dean of Students, at Mohawk Valley Community College, focusing on student development, public service education, and workforce readiness.
• Political Experience: First elected to the New York State Assembly in 2019 for District 119 . Serves on committees including Agriculture, Banks, Economic Development, Education, Higher Education, and Veterans Affairs. Active in the Legislative Women’s Caucus, Puerto Rican/Hispanic Task Force, Asian Pacific American Task Force, and Task Force on Women’s Issues. Community involvement includes Vice President of the Utica Community Food Pantry, League of Women Voters, International Association of Chiefs of Police, New York State Association of Fire Chiefs, and Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities.
