Biography
Mariana Sandoval
Mariana Sandoval is a Democratic member of the Arizona House of Representatives, representing Legislative District 23 since January 2023. She was elected in November 2022 and re-elected in 2024. District 23 spans four counties—Maricopa, Yuma, Pima, and Pinal—and encompasses suburban, rural, and tribal communities, including the largest stretch of the U.S.-Mexico border in Arizona and territory of the Tohono O'odham Nation, the Cocopah Tribe, and part of the Fort Yuma Quechan.
Sandoval is originally from California and currently resides in Goodyear, Arizona, with her husband Sergio. With over two decades of public service experience, she brings a background in legal advocacy and education to her legislative work.
Education
Sandoval earned her degree and professional credentials from Los Angeles Mission College, where she completed studies in Paralegal Studies, Interdisciplinary Studies, and obtained a Paralegal certificate. She put herself through college while working toward her credentials.
Political and Professional Experience
Legislative Service:
Sandoval has served in the Arizona State House of Representatives since 2023, holding positions on the Appropriations Committee, Land, Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee, and Ways and Means Committee.
Public Service Background:
Before entering the legislature, Sandoval worked for over a decade in legal services. She began her career as a paralegal at Neighborhood Legal Services of Los Angeles County, serving low-income families from 2001 to 2005. After relocating to Arizona, she worked as a Senior Paralegal at the Arizona Attorney General's Office from 2007 to 2019, where she focused on prosecuting air and water polluters and protecting wildlife.
Local Government:
Sandoval served four years on the Agua Fria Union High School District Governing Board , where she concentrated on expanding opportunities for underserved students and improving teacher compensation. She currently serves as a Board Member of Sleep in Heavenly Peace and previously served as an Ex-Officio Member of the Arizona Latino School Board Association.
Private Practice:
In 2021, Sandoval founded and serves as Chief Executive Officer of Sandoval Legal Services. She is also a co-founder of Arizona Education Guardians.
