Biography

Maria Horn is an American attorney and politician serving as a Democrat in the Connecticut House of Representatives for the 64th Assembly District. This district includes the towns of Canaan, Cornwall, Kent, Norfolk, North Canaan, Sharon, and Salisbury, southern Goshen, and much of Torrington. A native of Ohio raised Republican, she became a Democrat as an adult and resides in Salisbury with her husband, three children, and dog. Notable achievements include her narrow 2018 election win against incumbent Brian Ohler , reelections in 2020 and beyond, and leadership roles such as Chair of the Public Safety Committee, Vice Chair of the Appropriations Committee, and House Chair of the Finance, Revenue and Bonding Committee. She has sponsored legislation protecting the environment, children, small businesses, and vulnerable communities, while advocating for district needs like hospitals, schools, digital infrastructure, and COVID-19 support.

Education and Political Experience

  • Education: Earned a B.A. from Princeton University in 1986 and a J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School in 1993.
  • Professional Experience: Worked four years in corporate finance at JP Morgan & Co., at Debevoise & Plimpton, as a law clerk for a federal judge, and as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Criminal Division for the Southern District of New York.
