Representative Maria Cervania - North Carolina House District 41
Maria Cervania is a Democratic member of the North Carolina House of Representatives, representing District 41 in western Wake County, including parts of Cary. She serves as an epidemiologist and biostatistician, focusing on public health, education, and environmental sustainability.
Maria Louisa Saulog Cervania, born January 14, 1968, was born at Naval Hospital Oakland during her father's deployment in Vietnam and raised in Sunnyvale, California. She is the first Asian American and Pacific Islander elected to the Wake County Board of Commissioners and the first Filipino American in the North Carolina General Assembly. Elected to the NC House in 2022 with 63.92% of the vote, she began her second term in the 2025-2026 session. A member of the Progressive House Caucus, she serves on committees including Appropriations, Health, and Energy and Public Utilities, and is noted for sponsoring bipartisan bills.
