Biography
Marcus C. Evans Jr. is a Democratic state representative for Illinois' 33rd District, which spans parts of Chicago's South Side and suburban areas like Calumet City and Lansing in South Suburban Cook County. Born February 13, 1985, in Chicago, he is a lifelong South Side resident, cancer survivor, and advocate for cancer awareness and health care equity. Notable achievements include serving as Assistant Majority Leader, Chairman of the Labor & Commerce Committee, vice president of the National Conference of State Legislatures , member of the Illinois House Legislative Black Caucus, Illinois High School Association Liaison Representative, and member of the bi-cameral Legislative Audit Commission and State Housing Task Force. He has championed legislation on energy reliability, labor rights, transportation, health care funding, early childhood development, fair tax, job creation, and criminal justice reforms.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Graduate of Chicago Public Schools' Morgan Park High School ; B.S. in Business Administration from Chicago State University.
- Professional Background: Licensed real estate appraiser; Illinois High School Association sports official.
- Political Experience: Appointed to the Illinois House in April 2012 , subsequently elected and serving continuously through the 104th General Assembly as Assistant Majority Leader; previously worked as Assistant to the Alderperson for Chicago's 8th Ward City Council.
