Marcia Morey is a Democratic member of the North Carolina House of Representatives, representing District 30 in Durham County since her appointment in April 2017. Born on August 14, 1955, she previously served as Chief District Court Judge for the 14th Judicial District for 5 years and as a district court judge for 18 years. Notable achievements include spearheading the Misdemeanor Diversion Program , which has helped over 300 youth avoid criminal records through education and community service and has been replicated across North Carolina; creating the state's first diversion program for youthful offenders as an assistant district attorney; and serving as executive director of the Governor’s Commission on Juvenile Crime and Justice in 1998, reducing juvenile crime rates by approximately 40%. She is an openly lesbian member of the Progressive House Caucus and one of four openly LGBT members of the North Carolina General Assembly. As a former competitive swimmer, she represented the United States at the 1976 Summer Olympics in the women's 100-meter and 200-meter breaststroke events.
