Biography

Emmanuel "Manny" Sanchez is a Democratic state representative for Connecticut's 24th District, encompassing parts of New Britain and Newington. Endorsed by the Working Families Party, he was first elected in 2020, defeating Republican Alden Russell, and won re-election in 2024 with 65.6% of the vote; his current term ends in January 2027. Born in Hartford and raised in New Britain by a single mother, Sanchez is a proud Puerto Rican whose uncles served in the 65th Infantry Regiment ; his uncle Bobby Sanchez became New Britain's first Latino mayor in 2025. A dedicated advocate for working-class Latino families, he has championed economic inequality, education reform, public safety, affordable housing, youth development, social justice, paid family leave, minimum wage, and unionization. Notable achievements include leading efforts for the Borinqueneers memorial park—the largest on the U.S. mainland—and receiving awards like the One Hundred Men of Color Award, Connecticut Magazine’s “40-Under-40,” and New Britain NAACP recognition. He currently serves as Co-Chair of the Labor and Public Employees Committee, Assistant Majority Leader, Ranking Member of the Labor and Public Employees Committee, and a member of the Appropriations and Education Committees.
