Biography
Manny Rutinel , a Democrat, represents House District 32 in the Colorado House of Representatives, covering areas including Commerce City, Welby, and unincorporated parts of Adams County. Born on December 20, 1994, he is a first-generation American, raised by a single mother who immigrated from the Dominican Republic; he assumed office in October 2023 after being appointed to replace Dafna Michaelson Jenet. An environmental attorney and CEO of the non-profit Climate Refarm since 2021, Rutinel prioritizes environmental justice, affordability, civil rights, expanded health care access, housing, poverty-reducing tax credits, and oversight of ICE detention centers. On January 27, 2025, he announced his candidacy for Colorado's 8th congressional district in the 2026 U.S. House election.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Associate’s degree from community college ; B.S. in Microbiology and Economics from the University of Florida; M.S. in Applied Economics from Johns Hopkins University; J.D. from Yale Law School.
- Early Career: Worked at McDonald’s and tutored at Kumon Learning Center during high school; substitute teacher in college; economist for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers , including first responder duties in Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria; associate attorney at Earthjustice after law school.
- Political Experience: Appointed to Colorado House District 32 in October 2023; serves on the Energy & Environment Committee; candidate for U.S. House in Colorado's 8th district .
