Biography
Representative Manny Guzman
Manuel M. "Manny" Guzman Jr. is a Democratic member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives representing the 127th Legislative District, which includes Kenhorst and Reading, Pennsylvania. Originally from Brooklyn, New York, Guzman recognized the need for leadership within his community and decided to pursue public service.
Education
Guzman attended Kutztown University, where he became actively involved in student government and the university senate. During his time at Kutztown, he participated in then-Senator Barack Obama's presidential campaign and began working toward his goal of becoming a political organizer. As a student advocate, he spoke against rising tuition costs and for increasing academic standards.
Political Experience
Guzman was elected to the Reading School Board in 2013 and served until 2017. Following his school board tenure, he worked as the Coalitions Director with the Pennsylvania Democratic Party from 2018 to January 2020, where he focused on engaging communities of color in overlooked and disenfranchised cities across the Commonwealth. He served as the state-wide Latino vote director for President Biden's Pennsylvania campaign.
Guzman was elected to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in November 2020. In 2024, he was appointed chairman of the Central Pennsylvania Delegation, becoming the first Latino to chair a delegation in Pennsylvania House history. He currently serves on multiple committees including Appropriations, Environmental Resources & Energy, Gaming Oversight, Liquor Control, and Professional Licensure.
His legislative priorities include establishing a thriving local economy, improving education and public safety, enhancing human services, and advancing social justice policies in underserved communities.
