Biography

Maile S. L. Shimabukuro is a former Democratic member of the Hawaii State Senate, representing District 21 and District 22 on Oahu's Leeward Coast, including areas like Kalaeloa, Honokai Hale, Ko‘Olina, Nānākuli, Mā‘ili, Wai‘anae, Mākaha, and Mākua. Born October 1, 1970, in Honolulu and raised on the Wai‘anae Coast, she resigned from the Senate effective May 31, 2024, after over 20 years in the Hawaii Legislature. Notable achievements include chairing the Senate Hawaiian Affairs Committee since 2013, passing bills addressing Native Hawaiian communities, poverty, education, disability rights, environmental issues, and programs for women and children.
